The Eldorado has been a personal luxury coupe starting with 1953 and ending with the 2002 model which has not been the greatest of them all. In fact, Cadillac ceased production of the car because it was their worst selling model. Since 2002, they did not release a successor for the car or even news about an upcoming follow-up to the original. Not too long ago though they decided to release the 2016 Cadillac Eldorado concept car, a two-door coupe which seems to be a trend setter for the future Cadillac cars. Its design is outstanding with a massive long hood, clean lines and one of the most beautiful proportions in the World.
Platform of the new Cadillac Eldorado
However, it seems that the car will not go into production in this form which is a bit of a shame but it seems that Cadillac is going to make one which is good news nonetheless. They would make use of a new platform which debuted earlier on the CT6 sedan, a rear-wheel drive full-size sedan. The Eldorado would remain a 2-door luxury coupe which is great for the company because they don’t have anything like it in their roster.
On top of that, it should be the car to make Cadillac once again one of the top luxury car manufacturers in the World. Its price or release date have not been announced so far but it seems that it should be ready to be released on the market sometime at the end of 2016 for a base price with 6 digits, so it will be the most expensive Cadillac in production.
Cadillac Eldorado 2016 Engine
Engine wise, the concept of the 2016 Cadillac Eldorado used a 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8 designed specifically for it and it seems that the production model will not be that much different. The engine is actually derived from the 3.6 liter V6 rather than from the 6.2 liter V8 and it does offers some nice extras. Unlike many other cars in its class, this is going to be the only engine offering which makes it quite premium over some of the V6 or hybrid competitors.
The 4.8 liter V8 will be twin-turbocharged, so it will easily make well over 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The transmission of choice is most likely going to be GM’s new 10 speed automatic meaning the car will be offered both with rear and all wheel drive. The performance figures are unknown at this point but a 0 to 60 MPH time in less than 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 130 MPH are expected.
2016 Cadillac Eldorado Design
The design of the concept car is outstanding with a very clear design scheme which managed to borrow elements from the earlier models and blend them in one of the most beautiful designs of today. The production model of the 2016 Cadillac Eldorado is likely going to be a bit more different but the aggressively styled front end with the two slim headlights and massive grille are likely going to be kept. The long hood and the relatively short back end will also be carried over on the production model but the 22-inch wheels are likely going to be replaced with 20-inch rims due to safety concerns.
Even though it will continue to be a two-door luxury coupe, the Eldorado will feature four individual seats which will offer enough room for up to four passengers to travel in perfect comfort. The cabin is likely going to be designed from the ground up so we expect quite a minimalistic design with a central LCD screen that is going to control most of its functions. The materials will be better than pretty much any other production American car with things such as premium leather upholstery or heated and ventilated electric seats all around the car.
