The US model of the Trailblazer has been discontinued back in 2009 and since then there have not been any news about the model coming back on the US market. However, on the International market, the Trailblazer was actually updated back in 2013 with an all new model which is available for sale in Australia as well as in some other parts of the World. This model is actually based on the Colorado, so it has a body on frame construction and a lot of features which make from it a really good off-road car. There are now rumors that the 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer will actually come on the US market which actually makes sense considering the Colorado has just been launched.
Changes on the new Trailblazer
This would be based on the same chassis as the Colorado but it will not be the same car as the International version. In fact, it will be a heavily modified version of the Colorado with a pretty much identical front end but with a new back end that will replace the usual pickup bed.
2016 Chevy Trailblazer Engine
Engine wise, it is only natural that the Chevrolet Trailblazer 2016 will make use of the same engines as those of the Colorado which is good news but a bit disappointing when we think of the last model which used a V8 as its top trim level. The base on the new one though is going to be a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 which will provide 193 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Further, up the range, there is also going to be a 3.6 liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, both of them being perfect for competing with the Wrangler. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is going to be the only offering while rear or all-wheel drive will be available.
The Trailblazer will also get right from the start a 2.8 liter Duramax inline 4 diesel which is actually pretty much identical to the one on the European Wrangler. This engine will make up to 200 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque and it is likely going to be mated to GM’s 10 speed automatic. Just like with the two petrol engines, rear or all wheel drive is going to be available.
Chevrolet Trailblazer 2016 Design
Just as we mentioned before, the exterior of the Trailblazer will be quite easy to recognize, especially since the entire front end will be identical to the US version of the Colorado. However, at the back, it will feature a cab rather than a bed and a similar design to that of the Suburban with side opening doors which will greatly help with loading and unload the vehicle. The Trailblazer will offer up to seven seats and all the commodities a family needs. It is likely that it will also get a few special editions such as the Z71 which would add a higher ground clearance, a new suspension system as well as off-road wheels and tires.
Inside the cabin, on the other hand, the 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer will be identical to the Colorado and the two will not have any major differences when it comes to the equipment level of the actual design of the car. The two will only differ in the back where the Trailblazer will get seven seats in three rows. The middle row of seats will be able to slide forward in order to allow the rear passengers to board the car faster and without much effort.
2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer Release Date and Price
This new model should be ready to be released on the market by the end of 2016 when it will likely hit the market for around $23,000 thus making it the only real competitor for the Wrangler which is a great move by GM.
