The MKS is currently one of the worse selling mid-size luxury cars mostly because its design and platform are just old and the car has been recalled by Lincoln a couple of times due to problems with its steering column or even with its seat-belts. It would only seem natural that they are going to discontinue the current model but nobody expected them to replace the name altogether. It seems that the upcoming 2016 Lincoln MKS is actually going to receive the Continental name which has been on their roster in the past. The new car should be easier to drive, much better when it comes to the quality of the interior as well as better looking.
2016 Lincoln MKS Design
While Ford or Lincoln have not released any official pictures of the production model, a concept car was released not too long ago under the Continental name and the end result is better than most of us hoped. The design is spot on for a mid-size luxury car while the engine choice might just be perfect. The production model will likely feature a lot of these upgrades but the camouflaged model spied a few months ago shows a slightly different design as well as a possible new engine.
Let’s start this small preview with the design of the 2016 Lincoln MKS because it will likely be the deciding factor for getting the car. The front end will not get the one-piece grille of the concept car but rather a two-piece grille similar to that of the current models but restyled so it is not as imposing. The headlights are likely going to be identical while the back end will likely be carried over pretty much unchanged from the 2015 concept. Because it will be based on a stretched platform of the Fusion, the new MKS will actually be shorter, lower and wider than before so it will look quite a bit more aggressive.
The interior, on the other hand, is going to be all new and like nothing Lincoln ever did before. We expect a very minimalistic approach with a single LCD touch screen in the middle of the dashboard which is not only going to provide all the necessary information but it will also act as a control center for the satellite navigation, climate control and the heated and ventilated seats. The materials will be on par with all the other new cars in its class and there should be plenty of space for up to five adults and their luggage.
Engine of the new 2016 Lincoln MKS
Engine wise, 2016 Lincoln MKS is likely going to feature two different engines at launch which should make most people happy. Firstly, the base car will not use a 4 cylinder engine like most people expected but a 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 with 310 horsepower and up to 330 lb-ft of torque. The option will be a newly developed 3 liter EcoBoost V6 which first debuted on the concept car.
It is unclear yet about how much power the engine is going to make but it seems that Lincoln wants the car to have around 400 horsepower in its top trim level. Both engines will actually make use of Ford’s new 9 speed automatic while an all-wheel drive system is going to be a standard which is a very good thing to have, especially with this amount of power. The only real drawback we see with these engines is the omission of a high powered model but this is likely going to come at a later date.
Release Date and Price for 2016 Lincoln MKS
The car is going to be released for the US market by the end of 2016 and it should cost around $45,000 which is more than the current model but in line with most of its competitors, so it should be just fine.
